Journal week 4

This week we filmed our title sequence and we planned on starting to edit it. However on Friday, 20th January we filmed our title sequence. the footage seemed fine to us and it looked alright on the camera, however when we uploaded to the macs, it was too dark and the footage was not really visible. so we have decided to re-schedule the shoot, for the Tuesday the 25th of January. This means that we could not begin to edit, we however decided to film our voiceover instead. Once the sequence is shot to an acceptable standard then we can begin to add the affects the song and the voiceover.

Possible Damien Poster

Damien.jpg
Here is an example of a possible advertising poster that we could use for our film. We have incorporated the main theme of fire into the poster and also the child killer. It shows how the child is mysterious as the child's face cannot be seen and looks like a misty cloud.

Lighting.

Due to our film being a horror movie, we need to film in the dark to create a eery mood and effect. This is going to be very hard to film as we are filming outside so we are going to have to film around the time of sunset which will be about 4.00pm. If this fails, then i need to get hold of some industrial lighting which are used on building sites at night which i am sure i can get my hands on.

Journal Week 2- 8th December

Here is the second week of my journal. I will be writing about what we done in our lesson today. This week we storyboarded our title sequence, and we tried to find out possible music for it but then realised that the music had to be copyright free. We created 14 shots on our storyboard but we also took into account the camera movements so that we are completely sure that we can make the title sequence last at least 2 minutes. The storyboard was mainly what we wanted to put our full attention on as we knew exactly how are going to film it. The storyboard is completely focused around the theme of fire. We decided on the location of our sequence which will be Aaron's back garden as he has an incinerator that we can create the fire in. We still have to find copy right free music which we will create on garage band. We also need to buy or make fake burns which is a very important part of our sequence. We will also have to find out who will distribute our film so that we can put their logo at the start of our sequence.

Catch me if you can title sequence analysis

The start of the title sequence reminds me very much of a 1960's America due to the music being played and the way the people are dressed. Drawings of stickmen are shown instead of real people, this could be to symbolise the secrecy of the movie. The sequence includes a aeroplane which could show how an aeroplane is going to be significant at a certain point in the movie. The title sequence shows a journey of one of the characters which gives a subtle clue to the audience what the film is going to be about.

The typography used in the sequence is very simple and easy to read. The typography also reminds me of a 60's film due to it being in black and white, as are the characters. The colours used are all very bright and the title sequence does not bombard the viewer with things to understand right from the start.  Towards the end of the clip, we see a character in a black suit following a nurse and a doctor up stairs whilst they are in the lift. This could suggest how there may be a tragic conclusion to the film or a hospital will be involved in one way or another. When the writers names appear on screen they come through a typewriter and when the people who made the music come on screen, they come through a piano. I really like this part of the clip as it is very clever in the way that the characters on the typewriter look like they are typing the writers names.

The end of the title sequence shows shots of a character who the audience can recognize as an important character in the sequence, sneaking around in the darkness with spotlights being put on him. This could possibly symbolize how a spy may be used in this film and how the main character may be a spy. The typography turns more formal towards the end when the producers and directors names are being shown on the screen, this could signify there importance in the film.

Journal- Week 1

Starting from this week i will be keeping you updated on my work and the progress within my group by keeping a weekly journal.
This week my group, Ryan Emin, Harjinder Chana, Aaron Vander and myself assigned roles that we would be in control of, we decided that we needed to allocate roles so that we all knew what we were doing and were fully prepared. The roles that we assigned ourselves were as follows:
Aaron---Director
Harj---Cameraman
Ryan---Editor
James---Actor.

We were all comfortable with the roles we were given, everyone will know what they are doing when we come to filming and in the long run this will save us time.

Se7en Title sequence analysis

In this i will be analyzing the title sequence of the film Se7en. I will be writing about the importance of typography within the sequence, and the effect the music has on the audience.
The typography is very simple in the sequence and includes white writing on a plain black background. The black symbolizes the darkness of the film. The typography, being simple, is very easy to view and understand for the viewer and doesn't bombard them with to much before the film has even started. The title sequence shows little clues to what the film might be about. For example, we see someone shaving off the tops of their fingers which creates an enigma for the audience as we are being lead to believe he may be committing some sort of crime, as criminals shave their fingertips off. As the sequence carries on, we see the 'criminal' looking through a book and writing in it, we also see pictures being stuck in it. This is key to the film as it intrigues the audience into wanting to know what this person is doing, or about to do. As the title sequence progresses, the music gets faster and faster creating a suspense for the audience. This title sequence is extremely clever as it gives so many clues about the film without giving the concept of the film away.
